RoHS

Directive 2011/65/EU, better known as RoHS II (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), relates to restrictions on the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), implemented in Italy by way of Legislative Decree no. 27 of 4 March 2014.

This legislation limits the use of certain substances (lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and the corresponding ethers and some phthalates) in the production of electrical and electronic equipment and their components, the conformity of which must be attested by affixing CE marking.

As such, all companies that manufacture, assemble, distribute or import EEE, in order to avoid penalties or the withdrawal of their products from the market, must comply with these obligations. RoHS compliance management is a very demanding issue for any company, whether large or small, as it involves gathering a significant amount of information on the substances contained in the EEE, constant dialogue with respective suppliers, the involvement of all company departments through to verifying product compliance through chemical analysis in the most complicated cases.
