Packaging and packaging waste management
The principles underlying regulations governing the management of packaging and packaging waste are essentially twofold:
- that linked to "shared responsibility"
- and the EU principle according to which "the polluter pays".
These principles result in obligations for businesses, for Government and for citizens. In order to fulfil the obligations of companies, CONAI, the National Packaging Consortium, was created.
This is a private system consisting of the companies that produce and use packaging. The purpose is to achieve the objectives of recovery and recycling of packaging materials established under European legislation .
